Mum of four, Sarah Wheatley, experienced first-hand the scholarship application process, when their family plans to move counties coincided with eldest son, Joseph, starting Secondary School. She explains why, and how, they took the decision to apply for funding for Joseph’s education. “When we were planning on moving to York a few years ago, Joseph was due to start secondary school. After looking up the various state secondary schools in the different areas of York, I was concerned that we would not be able to afford to live in the catchment area for any of the decent ones. I couldn’t bear to send him to a ‘rough’ school – I know that sounds snobby – after going to [our local primary] where the children are all so protected and looked after.”
The best school in the area was the exclusive and high achieving St Peter’s; a private school in York that prides itself in proving a first class education.
