Assistance for Young People Leaving Care

People who have recently been in the care of their Local Authority might be able to get extra financial help for taking a higher education course.

This is usually a one-off bursary of £2,000 and students do not need to apply for it, as the local authority responsible for them will pay it automatically.

However, there are certain criteria that has to be met:
- the course must be at least two years long, but this can be a  full or part time course
- the course must have started on, or after 1st September 2008
- the student must have been under 25 years old when they started the course
